What we do
Our focus is on the interpretation and practice of the system of Johannes Lichtenauer mostly via the works of Joachim Meyer who taught in the 16th Century. You can read about Lichtenauer and Meyer on Wiktenauer.
The primary weapons systems we cover include:
- longsword (a two handed sword)
- dussack (a type of short sabre)
- rappier (a long bladed single handed cut and thrust sword wielded alone, or with a dagger, cloak, or buckler (small shield).
- arming sword and buckler. (an older system using older sources in the tradition. A short cross hilted sword and a small shield).
- dagger (a long, stiff stabbing weapon. This is also done with older sources that Meyer.)
- staff (A 7ft pole)
Meyer's works are some of the last published in the tradition of Johannes Liechtenauer and are easily the most detailed and comprehensive in the tradition. The Liechtenauer tradition has its origins in the 1300s (possibly earlier) and was still being used as the basis for the principles of swordsmanship in the late 1600s. This is despite dramatic changes in weapon technology during this vast period of time.
We follow the school terms and are currently only active during school time.

At Baulkham hills, we work with 1 or more weapons every lesson according to the concept that has been selected for the evening. This has been found to be superior to concentrating on one weapon at a time.
An annual fee of $25 to cover insurance paid to Stoccata Central directly (If you attend multiple branches, you need only pay the membership fee once).
And then $150 per term or $30 per class on a casual basis.
Private lessons are offered on a Pay What You Want Basis. Your first private lesson is free.
We train Thursday nights between 20:00 and 22:00.
